CHURCH NEWS January 28 , 2007

For our Centennial – we are looking for the handmade leather photograph book of the history of the church.  It is needed in the office.  Someone copied the articles and pictures from it and place them in a 2” white binder.  The office needs the originals.  If any one can help us find it we would appreciate it.
Thank you very much.

The Centennial Committee would like to hear about our ideas for celebrating our Centennial Year. They’ve placed a suggestion box on the table by the office.

The Community Prayer Meeting – Our Monthly Community Prayer Meeting is Tuesday, January 30th, 7:00 pm at the New Hope Chapel (118 W. Bartlett, Omak).

The First Membership Classis planned for Feb. 4th after church with a potluck luncheon (app. 12:30).  Please let Pastor Ken know if this will not work for you.

The Body Life Committee is planning a Valentine Banquet Feb. 16th at 6:00 p.m. (Friday) at the church.  The Ingram’s will be providing a delicious chicken dinner on a donation basis ($10 is suggested) as a fundraiser to help Josiah go on a mission trip to New York City.  This is not just for couples.  Our theme is LOVING GOD AND LOVING GOD’S FAMILY.  Please sign up on the Friendship Register or call the church office to reserve a place.  You’ll enjoy the food and fellowship.

Coffee Fellowship servers are needed for the month of February.  If you are interested in serving the Lord in this way put “Coffee Fellowship” behind your name on the register or call Talana Lay at 826-4623.

General Assembly Per Capita Withholding. The session recognizes that there are some within our church who may feel bound by conscience to withhold their General Assembly portion of their per capita payment as a means of protesting the 217th G.A. action in passing recommendation 5c of the Theological Task Force on Peace, Unity, and Purity of the Church (P.U.P.). While the session, in prayerful consideration, did not feel we as a church should withhold G.A. per capita at this time for the reasons stated in a letter to the congregation shared at the Annual Meeting, they are making provision for individuals to withhold. If you choose to do so, session asks you to:
1.         Read the letter they’ve written, explaining some issues involved they considered. Copies of the letter are on the table by the church office.
2.         In order to withhold, you must pay your full per capita ($38.85) in a separate payment, using the form provided with the letter.
Then, according to your instructions, the G.A. portion ($5.79) will be directed to a mission of the Presbytery of Central Washington– and that amount withheld from what goes to G.A. So, for every person withholding (redirecting this payment), the G.A. gets $5.79 less, and the reason for the shortfall will be communicated by the Presbytery to the offices of G.A.

What is Per Capita? Per Capita in our denomination is a per-member assessment used to pay the administrative costs of our three higher judicatories: The Presbytery of Central Washington, The Synod of Alaska Northwest, and General Assembly. By paying administrative costs (staff salaries, office costs, and meeting costs) in this way, mission dollars go directly to support missions. This year, two-thirds of our per capita ($26.77) goes to our presbytery, $6.29 to our synod, and $5.79 to G.A. Our church pays this for each member within the first three months of the year. It is always appreciated and extremely helpful for individuals to cover this cost of their membership in a specially designated gift to the church.

The Margaret Walton Johnson Family would like to thank you for all the cards, kind words, and prayers in the death of Margaret.  Thank you for being such a kind and generous church family.  Also thanks to the women who put on a great luncheon for us. We are very grateful.
